Old furniture given a quiet, careful second life
The workshop specialises in conservation-grade restoration of 18th- and 19th-century furniture: French polish, hide glue joinery, marquetry repair, lock and brassware, and period-correct upholstery. We document each piece before we begin, agree what to leave and what to renew, and keep the original timber whenever it can be saved.
Pieces are collected and returned by us where local. For larger commissions we travel for survey and quote, and offer storage between phases for clients who are moving house. Every job leaves with photos, a written log of what was done, and clear care instructions.
Quiet hands, period materials
Conservation-grade work on furniture you intend to pass on, with reversible methods and traceable materials.

On-site or in-workshop survey with photographs, materials check and a written quote covering options and trade-offs.

Traditional shellac French polish on tables, chests and cabinets, built up in successive coats with rubbed-back finish.

Lifting veneer re-laid with hide glue, missing marquetry recut from period-matched stock and finished to blend with the original.

Loose joints re-glued with hide glue, broken stretchers spliced in matching timber and re-pegged where original construction allows.

Hessian, jute webbing and horsehair on traditional frames; choice of period-correct fabrics from our sample library.

Detailed condition report and itemised quote suitable for direct submission to your contents or fine-art insurer.

What Our Clients Say
"He kept my grandmother's bureau for three months, sent me weekly photos and put it back together so it looks like it never broke."
"Lifted veneer on a 1780 chest. The repair is invisible at arm's length and reversible if anyone ever needs to touch it again."
"Period-correct webbing and horsehair on two Hepplewhite chairs. Looks right, sits right, and the bill matched the quote."
