A respectful second life for your artworks
The atelier specialises in the conservation and restoration of works of art: paintings, works on paper, gilded frames and ceramics. Every piece is studied and documented before treatment; our interventions are reversible and respect the original material, in line with the ethical principles of conservation.
Pieces are collected and returned by us where local. For larger commissions we travel for survey and quote, and offer storage between phases for clients who are moving house. Every job leaves with photos, a written log of what was done, and clear care instructions.
Expert hands, conservation-grade craft
Conservation and restoration of works of art: paintings, paper, gilded frames and ceramics, using reversible, fully documented treatments.
Thinning or removal of oxidised varnish and overpaint, and lifting of surface grime after solubility testing, to recover the original colours and reading of the work.
Filling of losses with gesso, then reversible colour reintegration with retouching varnish, illusionistic or in tratteggio, strictly confined to the missing areas.
Re-fixing of flaking paint, treatment of tears and, where required, lining or relining of the canvas to restore the flatness and stability of the support.
Consolidation of the wood and gesso ground, replacement of missing ornaments, filling and water- or oil-gilding with gold leaf, with a patina matched to the original gilding.
Dry cleaning, deacidification, treatment of stains and foxing, infilling of losses and flattening of drawings, prints and watercolours, in a climate-controlled workshop.
Examination of the work at the atelier or on site, observation under raking light and UV, a photographic condition report and a detailed quote for the proposed treatments.
